EURO 2012

In 2012 Ukraine and Poland will together host the European Football Championship. Lviv has been included into the list of Ukraine’s Euro 2012 hosting cities. Noteworthy is the fact that it was Lviv where the first in the history of Ukrainian sport football match was played in 1894.

The city is diligently getting ready for this event, investments are being attracted and the update and advancement of tourist, transport and sporting infrastructure are being planned. Specifically:

  • The Lviv international airport will be reconstructed which will advance its carrying capacity up to 1.6 million passengers a year
  • A new highway will be laid through the territory of Lviv Region from Berlin, though southern Poland and the whole territory of Ukraine from west to east
  • Construction of new and reconstruction of already existent roads, junctions and parking areas within the limits of the city is being planned
  • Construction of a new modern stadium which will be able to seat 32 thousand people has started
  • The plan of reconstruction of sport structure has been developed
  • The city has assigned about 30 land lots for the construction of new hotels
