Access to E-mail Accounts & Internet As an USS student it is possible to obtain an e-mail account and access to the Internet. If you wish to make use of these facilities you may check out a username, password, and IT rules during registration, June 22-23 , 09:00-15:00, or Monday, June 25, 09:00-15 :00. After June 27 please contact the Coordinator USS at the USS Office for checking out a username, password, and IT rules. If you already have access to e-mail in your own country you could use your own account, providing it is www-based, or you can log on to your own account through your own home server. On the machines at our computer lab (see below) programs for logging on to outside servers are available. Access information is distributed along with your username, password and rules for computer use. Through your ISS/UiO account you will have access to UiO´s webmail. Access to Computer Lab U SS-students and faculty with computer accounts at the University of UCU may use the computer lab, which is situeted in the ground floor. This computer lab is available to the USS students during the summer semester. During registration, all U SS students will receive a key card that will give them access to UCU bilding and computer lab during the opening hours in the evenings and on the weekends. The building is open every weekday between 09:00 and 20:00. Opening hours: | Monday – Friday 09:00-20:00. Saturday 10:00-18:00. Sunday - computer lab is close. | Equipment: | The lab contains ca. 100 (primarily) Windows XP computers with Office 2000 (English language version). There is access to a laser printer. | Technician: | A technician will be present every afternoon Monday – Friday 14:00 – 20:00 (with the exception of July 14 & 15 and August 4 & 5), as well as Saturdays 10:00 – 16:00. The technician can assist users in solving technical problems, e.g. malfunctioning of the printer, password problems, etc. However, the technician is not in a position to teach users how to use the computers or programs . U SS students must be able to operate the computers on their own. | Printer: | Use of the printer is free of charge. However, there is a printing quota for each user. Use printing facilities with moderation! Be conscious of the environment and remember that paper is expensive! It is not possible to use floppy disks in every PC, but it is possible to use an USB mass storage device (which you must own or purchase yourself) in every computer. It is not possible to connect your own PC or Mac to a printer in the computer lab. | Scanner: | A flatbed scanner is located in the lab. Students may use i t to scanning of documents for USS academic use. |
