Prof. Mariana Burak,
Instructor of Beginning Ukrainian

Mariana Burak a native of Lviv, graduated (summa cum laude) from Ivan Franko National University of Lviv with a degree in English Philology and Literature in 1998. In her third year at the university, she started teaching English, British Studies, English and American Literature at the Lviv Secondary School ¹53 specializing in English, thus acquiring essential practical experience in language teaching before graduation. Since 1998 she has been teaching English at the Lviv National Academy of Arts. Up to now, she has published three articles on methods of teaching, developed an audio version of “Conversational Topics in English”, and organized several students' performances. She has become the most active and promising specialist of the department. Her additional English teaching experience includes work at the English philology department of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv in 2000, and at the Ukrainian Catholic University in 2003-2005.
Since she entered a post-graduate course in 1999, she has been working on a scientific research in linguistics. She has, as well, participated in a number of scientific conferences and published several articles on the topic of dissertation.
In 2005 Mariana taught Ukrainian as a foreign language at the Ukrainian Summer School held at the Ukrainian Catholic University.

Prof. Oksana Dzyuban, Instructor of Intermediate Ukrainian

Received an M.A. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from the School for International Training (SIT), Vermont, USA. During 2006-2007 academic year, she worked as a Teaching Assistant at the Department on Language Teacher Education at SIT. She completed her winter internship teaching adults and young adults at the American Language Center in Kenitra, Morocco.
A member of UCU faculty since 1998, she has taught English to students of all levels of proficiency. She has also worked as English Summer School (ESS) Coordinator, English Department Head, Ukrainian Summer School Academic Director, and teacher of Ukrainian as a foreign language. While working with ESS teachers, she developed interest in teacher training. Following that, she completed the program at the Teacher Training Institute, SIT, and received a Certificate in Teacher Training Development.
In the spring of 2002, she took a professional development course and was awarded a Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA). In 2002 – 2003, Oksana did research in the field of Applied Linguistics and Computer Assisted Language Learning at Iowa State University, USA, as a Fulbright scholar. In 2006, she was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to pursue graduate studies at SIT. She is also a recipient of other grants.
Oksana never gets tired of learning and always looks for professional development opportunities.

Prof. Ihor Lyl’o,
Instructor of Advanced Ukrainian

Ihor graduated from Ivan Franko Lviv National University, Department of History. In 1999 he defended his doctoral thesis in History. Since 1999 he has been working at the Department of Mediaeval and Byzantine Studies of Lviv University. Ihor is a graduate of the Lane Kirkland Program, US-Polish Fulbright Committee (2004-2005). He was placed in the Yagelonian University, Krakow, Poland.
Ihor is the author of the guidebooks „Prohulyanka Lvovom” (Touring Lviv), „Prohulyanka Zakarpattyam” (Touring Zakarpattya), journalist of radio „Lvivska Khvylya” (Lviv Wave).

Orysya graduated from the Ukrainian Catholic University in 2002. She is a
Fulbright Graduate Student alumnus. In 2002-2004 she studied in Drew
University, NJ majoring in Gender and Religion. Since 2005 she has been
working at the UCU Student Affairs Office as a coordinator of student
exchange programs.

Roman graduated from the Ukrainian Catholic University in 2002, from the Institute of Non-profit Management in 2004, and from Ukrainian Printing Academy (Department of Economic and Business) in 2006. To realize his managerial potential he founded Students Career Office in March 2004. Roman became a Director of Student Affairs Office in 2005, which he is currently running.
From 2003 by now, Roman is a Director of English Summer School. The next year he started German Summer School, and from 2005 he manages Ukrainian Summer School. Now he is a Director and financial supervisor of UCU Summer Semester. Every year UCU runs 14-17 summer schools and programs.
He is an executive director of the UCU “Alumni Association”.
In October 2006 Roman had an internship program (in fundraising) in Chicago, Il, USA.
