Orange Revolution

The Ukrainian Student Unity Movement

[10:00, 27.11.2004]   Polish students are with us!
It is so symbolic that on the day when the citizens of Lviv were expressing their gratitude to Poland at the building of the Polish Consulate, UCU students had a chance to express their gratitude personally to those that were supporting us in Poland because 16 students from Warsaw came to Lviv that evening to support Ukrainians in their political actions.
Right after their arrival, the students went to the central meeting of Lviv in the downtown. In the evening they were carrying posters “Poland is with you” and were anxiously watching on TV the rally in Kyiv. The Polish youth was so supportive that they refused to go to a hotel and slept on the floor in the classrooms of UCU. Since early morning they went for a tour to Lviv publishing agencies to make some contacts and after that went striking again. One of the Polish students, Anna Kordasievich, says that she was impressed by the reaction of the Ukrainians. People on the streets stopped by and were happy to greet their Polish neighbors. The movement for unity is getting stronger! We are very grateful to our Polish friends for support… and also for the banana porridge that people that are staying at UCU on duty are going to have for breakfast

[15:00, 26.11.2004]   All-Ukrainian action “Let’s unite in prayer”
Lviv  Today at 18:00 we invite all Ukrainians no matter in what part of the Earth or our country we are, no matter what our political or religious persuasions are, to stop in silence and spend a few moments in a prayer. The Lord is our shepherd, we are uniting under his guard, we ask for justice and truth in Him.
Tell your friends, relatives about this action that was initiated by the citizens of Lviv. We will experience the power of Ukrainian community due to the prayer!!!

[14:45, 26.11.2004]   Distributing food, clothes
Kyiv  Today students of the Ukrainian Catholic University, Marta Samokishyn, Iryna Zaluzhna, Khrystyna Musij, Natalya Cerklevych started their work in the Ukrainian Home. Ukrainians are uniting, donating food, clothes. The girls give it out to the people that need it.
The witnesses say that they are trying to make contacts with the supporters of Yanukovych. They eagerly join the dialogue. “These people are simple miners that were forced to go to Kyiv, they look very tired, very often people force them to drink alcohol to control them,” Natalya Cerklevych says. The demonstration is very peaceful full of spirit of unity. ”I feel a lot of grace here,” says Natalya.

[14:30, 26.11.2004]   Thank You
Lviv  Today at 14:30 near the Polish Consulate in Lviv at the initiative of the Ukrainian Catholic University an action of gratitude took place. We wanted to say thank you to the Polish people for their support in our struggle for democratic civil society and our President Viktor Yushchenko.
Students of UCU and the Academy of Art took part in the action. Though the number was not very big, the Polish Consul Wjeslaw Osechowski and the consulate staff were very touched by this personal contact with people.
UCU Rector Fr. Borys Gudziak said that it is important not only to ask for attention and support but to express gratitude for that. We must be grateful to the people abroad, especially to Polish citizens, political leaders, students, the church, journalists for their support and attention to Ukraine.
